Norfolk grew quickly through the 1990s and 2000s, and most of its housing dates from that period — subdivisions off Route 115, Main Street, Seekonk Street, and North Street, built on one-acre-plus lots with generous primary suites. Those suites almost all came with the same layout: a corner soaking tub, a separate small shower stall, and a double vanity.
Twenty to thirty years on, that layout is the single most common thing Norfolk homeowners want to change. The corner tub is rarely used, it consumes the best part of the room, and the shower next to it is too small — frequently a 36" or 42" stall with a framed door. The standard Norfolk renovation removes the tub entirely and expands the shower into the space it occupied.
That expansion is precisely where custom glass stops being optional. The resulting opening is defined by whatever the old tub deck and existing walls leave behind, which is almost never a standard dimension and often includes a return leg or an angled corner where the tub used to sit. We measure the finished opening in your home to 1/16" after the tile is complete and fabricate glass to that exact geometry — corner joints, notches around a bench or niche, and panels sized to the actual span.
The wider openings that result also change the specification. A 3/8" panel is appropriate at alcove scale, but a long fixed run or a large door is meaningfully better in 1/2": flatter across the span, heavier and quieter in the swing. Where the design includes a bench or a curbless entry, the way the glass meets the floor and the bench edge has to be worked out before fabrication, not after.
Norfolk's older housing around the village center and the remaining antique houses bring the out-of-square condition instead — walls that lean over the height of an opening, ceilings that slope. Custom-cut glass follows the wall rather than fighting it.
A large share of Norfolk is on private wells, and water hardness varies. Mineral spotting on untreated glass is the most frequent complaint on well water, and a protective coating slows it considerably. It has to be specified at order time.
Hardware here runs toward matte black and brushed brass in fuller renovations, with brushed nickel a steady default. Low-iron ultra-clear glass is worth it where the tile is white marble or pale quartzite.
