Newton is thirteen villages with thirteen slightly different housing profiles, and the shower work varies accordingly. Victorians and turn-of-the-century houses fill Newton Centre, Newtonville, and Auburndale. Chestnut Hill and Waban hold larger estate properties and a steady stream of new luxury construction. The Victorian and early-twentieth-century houses produce the most demanding enclosures. Their bathrooms are compact, frequently tucked under a dormer or into a former dressing room, with sloped ceilings, window casings that intrude on the shower wall, and framing that has moved over a century. Fitting glass into those spaces means cutting to the actual geometry — angled top cuts, notches around casings, panels sized to the real taper of a leaning wall. Every Oasis enclosure is measured in your home to 1/16" after the tile is complete, which is what makes those fits work at all.
Newton's condominium and two-family conversions add a different constraint: tight footprints where every inch of the opening matters and where a door swing may have nowhere to go. Those often resolve as a single fixed panel with an open entry, which needs no hinge hardware or bottom sweep and is the simplest enclosure to keep clean.
The new luxury construction in Chestnut Hill and Waban goes the opposite direction — large primary suites with wide walk-ins, benches, curbless entries, and multi-panel layouts. Those spans are where 1/2" glass earns its premium over 3/8", and where low-iron ultra-clear glass is close to standard, since so much of that work uses white marble or pale stone against which ordinary tempered glass shows a green edge cast.
Hardware in Newton runs the entire range, from polished nickel and unlacquered brass in the period houses to matte black and brushed brass in new construction. Matching an existing fixture finish is one of the most common requests here, and it is far more reliable done in person than from photographs.
