Hingham holds one of the best-preserved collections of colonial and Federal architecture on the South Shore, concentrated along Main Street and through the streets near the harbor, alongside newer luxury construction around the Shipyard and in the neighborhoods off Route 228. Both ends of that range produce steady bath work, and they need opposite things from an enclosure.
The antique houses are the reason custom glass exists. Bathrooms in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Hingham houses were carved out of bedrooms, dressing rooms, and back halls long after the frame went up, and generations of settling leave openings that are out of plumb, walls that bow, and ceilings that slope under the eaves. An opening that measures 59 3/4" at the base and 60 1/4" at the head is entirely normal in a house of that age. Glass cut to a nominal 60" fails in a room like that; glass cut to the measured taper does not. Every Oasis enclosure is measured in your home to 1/16" after the tile is finished, and angled top cuts and notches around casings and beams are routine.
Restraint matters in those houses too. Where a bathroom has original millwork or period tile, a frameless panel with minimal hardware lets the room read as itself rather than putting a metal frame at the center of it.
The newer Shipyard-area and luxury construction goes the other way — large primary suites with wide walk-ins, benches, and curbless entries. Those spans push the glass to 1/2" from 3/8" for rigidity and door feel, and low-iron ultra-clear glass is a frequent specification against white marble and pale stone where standard tempered glass shows a green edge cast.
Hingham's harbor location is worth a note on hardware: closer to the water, salt air is harder on finishes than inland conditions, and which hardware line makes sense depends partly on exposure. That is a conversation worth having during the measurement visit rather than after.
