Middleton is about 4 miles from our Peabody showroom at 47 Newbury St — roughly a 5-minute drive, and one of the shortest trips of any town we serve. That proximity is worth using: most Middleton homeowners visit more than once, first to get oriented on glass thickness and hardware, then again with a tile sample or a fixture once the design firms up.
The town's housing is mostly newer construction, built out substantially from the 1990s onward around the golf courses and through the wooded neighborhoods off Route 114, Maple Street, and Liberty Street, with an older core near Middleton Square. That 1990s and 2000s stock is now entering prime renovation age.
Two things characterize the work. First, builder-grade shower doors get replaced. The framed units specified in that era have aluminum on all four sides and a bottom track that collects water and mineral deposits, and they date a bathroom faster than the tile does. Swapping to frameless glass changes the room disproportionately to the cost — no perimeter framing, no track — but it demands precision, since frameless glass has no frame to absorb a discrepancy. We measure the finished opening in your home to 1/16" and cut to that number.
Second, the corner tub comes out. Primary suites from that period almost universally paired a corner soaking tub with a small separate shower stall, and removing the tub to expand the shower is the standard upgrade. The opening it produces is shaped by the old tub deck and existing walls — rarely a standard dimension, frequently with a return leg or an angled corner — and custom fabrication handles that geometry, including corner joints and notches around a bench or niche.
Wider spans push the glass from 3/8" to 1/2" for rigidity across a long fixed run and a more solid door swing. Low-iron ultra-clear glass is worth the upgrade where the tile is white marble or pale porcelain, since standard tempered glass shows a green cast at the exposed edges.
Hardware in Middleton runs toward brushed nickel and matte black, with brushed brass increasingly common in fuller renovations. Parts of town are on private wells, and where water is hard a protective coating slows mineral spotting meaningfully — it has to be specified at order time, since there is no retrofit.
