Scituate is a working coastal town — an active harbor, beach neighborhoods at Minot, Sand Hills, Humarock, and North Scituate, and inland streets of capes and colonials filled with Boston commuters. Its bath projects split fairly cleanly between the coast and the interior, and the coastal ones have a particular timing advantage.
Coastal rebuilds and FEMA-driven house lifts have been a steady feature of Scituate for years, and they produce something unusual: brand-new, properly square framing in a house that otherwise would have had century-old geometry. When a bathroom is being built from scratch in a lifted or rebuilt house, the enclosure can be planned into the design rather than fitted around finished decisions — niche placement, bench height, drain location, and hinge positions all coordinated before the tile goes in. If you are at that stage, it is worth involving us early; we will still measure the finished opening in your home to 1/16" once the tile is complete, because built and drawn dimensions rarely match exactly.
Salt air is a genuine hardware consideration here, more so in the beach neighborhoods than inland. Finishes weather differently near open water, and how exposed the house is affects which hardware line makes sense — a conversation better had during the measurement visit than two years later.
The inland capes and colonials bring the standard conversion work: a 60" tub alcove becomes a walk-in, with glass cut to the alcove's finished width, a dimension fixed by framing that is never a round number. Older capes have usually settled enough that the opening tapers, and glass cut to the measured taper sits flat where nominal glass does not.
Wider renovations move the specification from 3/8" to 1/2" glass for rigidity across a long fixed run and for a more solid door swing. Low-iron ultra-clear glass is worth the upgrade where the tile is white marble or pale stone, since standard tempered glass shows a green edge cast.
Glass for the Scituate area is fabricated and dispatched from our own Massachusetts facility about 13 miles away, which keeps turnaround short — useful when a rebuild is running to a schedule.
