Sharon's housing is largely postwar and later, built out steadily from the 1950s through the 1990s around Lake Massapoag and through the neighborhoods off Massapoag Avenue, East Street, and Billings Street, with newer construction filling in since. That stock is now squarely in renovation age, and the bathroom is usually the first room to go.
The most common Sharon project starts with a standard tub-shower alcove and ends with a walk-in. That conversion is straightforward in concept and exacting in execution: the alcove width is fixed by framing and is essentially never a round number, so a panel ordered at a nominal 60" will bind at one end or leave a gap at the other. We measure the finished opening in your home to 1/16" after the tile is set and cut to that dimension, which is the difference between an enclosure that looks built-in and one that looks ordered from a catalog.
The second decision is whether to include a door at all. Where the alcove is deep enough and the shower head sprays away from the opening, a single fixed panel with an open entry works well and is the easiest enclosure to live with — no hinges, no bottom sweep, less to clean. Where a door is wanted, a fixed panel with a swinging door on the short return is the standard arrangement, sized to clear the vanity and the threshold.
Sharon's larger renovations and newer construction support wider enclosures, sometimes with a return leg around a bench. Those spans push the glass from 3/8" to 1/2" for rigidity across a long fixed run and for the weight of a bigger door. Low-iron ultra-clear glass is worth considering where the tile is white marble or light porcelain, since standard tempered glass shows a green cast at the exposed edges.
Hardware here trends toward brushed nickel and matte black, with brushed brass increasingly common in fuller renovations. Matching an existing fixture finish is a frequent request and is best done with the actual piece in hand rather than a photo.
